Treasurer’s Report

At the start of the meeting we had $186.41.  Phil, K4WFO paid dues for 2006 so the total in the treasury at the end of the meeting was $206.41.

Old Business

The chapter banner was discussed and the members decided that they wanted it to the dimensions of the standard QCWA banner.  The National QCWA office does not carry their banner any longer so Bob, W8HGH will cut a stencil and paint the logo and chapter number on denim.  Bob will contact the National and find out the dimensions of the official banner.

Stan, K4UK announced that the new WW2DDM cards had been delivered and we were shown samples of the cards.

Charlie, K4BSF brought to my attention since Jim, AA4L is a Silent Key it would be best if I removed his name from the QCWA E-mailing list.

Bob, W8HGH asks that members who have not paid their dues please do so as soon as possible.  Also, if there are corrections on names, calls, E-mail addresses, QTH addresses, phone numbers, etc. please contact him before the next meeting.

New Business

Stan, K4UK moved that we raise chapter dues to $10.00 per year from the current $5.00.  This will not affect Life Members.  The motion was seconded by Charlie, K4BSF and was approved by all members present.

Stan, K4UK suggested that the chapter operate during the World Wide CQ WPX CW contest held on May 28-29, 2005.  He is asking that individual members contact him if willing to operate during the contest.  He is suggesting that a member operate on a single band (80, 40, 20, 15, 10) so that primary callsign, (WW2DDM) will not be on the same band, same mode on two different frequencies.  If several members wish to spilt time for an individual band that should be discussed before the above date.  Operation will be done from the individual operators home QTH.  Each operator will keep his/her own list of serial numbers for that band.

WW2DDM will be in operation on June 6, 2005 also.  Stan is asking that operators contact him regarding frequency and mode for that date.  We would like to operate CW, RTTY, PSK31 and SSB if possible.  Bob, W8HGH has offered to put spots on the DX packet cluster if some way can be found to communicate via 2 meters.  (eg. Call W8HGH on 2 meter FM and tell him what mode and frequency you are operating and he will set up a spot on the cluster.)  This has been very successful in the past and will increase our total number of QSOs.

July 23 is Family Day at the D-Day National Memorial and Stan, K4UK has suggested that a 2 meter FM station should be set up at the Memorial site to take messages that visitors want sent out.  These messages would be picked up by other operators and sent on to the destination.

Larry, WA2OLP will set up press release(s) regarding the Family Day operation.

Bob, W8HGH suggested that we try to set up an 80 Meter SSB net to allow members to keep in touch with one another.  Stan, K4UK suggested that it might be better to have a morning net to avoid the crowded band conditions.  President Bill, WA4BKW asked that we table this matter until the next meeting.

Buddy, W4YE brought in photos of Bob, W8HGH and Stan, K4UEK to be sent along to our webmaster, OBIE, WA4DOX.  He and Stan, K4UK have asked that the web site be brought up to date. Bob, W8HGH said that it would be finished before his tenure in office expires in May, 2005.

Announcements

Roanoke Hamfest in August.  One day before Berryville Hamfest.  Date unknown to me at this time.

April 22, W4CA old timers night.  Long time hams will be invited to reminisce, spin yarns, dazzle the multitudes, or maybe lie a little about what it was like in the Old Days of Ham Radio.

April 30, W4CA auction.  Contact any Roanoke radio club member for info.

The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, May 12 at 6:00PM at the Roanoker restaurant in Roanoke, Virgina.  This will be a dinner meeting.  The room has been reserved for 18 people but we will find a way if more show up.  The bill will on an individual basis and the Roanoker has not charged us because we are a senior citizen group.  There will be the usual 18% gratuity added on.  (I am not sure if we get senior citizen discount for the meal.)  Bring a spouse, friend, or a prospective member.  No program is planned at this time.

Annual election of officers will be held at the May 12 meeting.  Here is your chance to help shape the future of Chapter 202.  Bob, W8HGH has asked to step down as treasurer/secretary so that some of the other 29 members can take over.
