OLD BUSINESS

Bob, W8HGH quoted a price of $75.00 from Longwood Industries in Bedford for the construction of a 2 foot by 8 foot vinyl banner using two colors.  Bob was asked to contact QCWA Headquarters concerning whether they have found a new source for the conventional Chapter banners.  This was tabled for further discussion.

Betty Walter kindly offered to construct a cloth banner if the proper materials are available.  Gene Walter will get the details of the conventional banner hopefully from the QCWA web site.  Then he and Betty will determine if she can make the banner.  This matter is to be discussed at the December meeting.

NEW BUSINESS

Stan, K4UK showed the WAS award earned by the chapter while using the WW2DDM call.  He said that we have almost used up the 3000 original WW2DDM cards for the chapter’s special event station.  Stan proposed that we order 1000 new cards at a cost of $157.00.  He made the motion to purchase 1000 cards.  The motion was seconded by Riley, K4ORD.  Following the suggestion by Gene Walter that the chapter consider getting 2000 cards, Charlie, K4BSF moved to amend the motion the chapter purchase 2000 cards at a total cost of not more than $300.00. Riley, K4ORD seconded this amendment.  The amended motion was passed by unanimous vote.

Buddy, W4YE asked for authorization to purchase 1000 QSL cards for the Chapter’s secondary call sign W5KL.  Buddy said he would be pay half of the cost.  Bob, W8HGH, stating his concern that the funds for the chapter are getting low offered additional money to add to the cost of the W5KL cards.  He also stated that this was not an attempt to get other members to add funds from their own pocket for the W5KL cards.  Stan, K4UK moved that the chapter pay half the cost of 1000 cards for the W5KL call.  Riley, K4ORD seconded.  The motion was passed by unanimous vote.

Buddy, W4YE announced that he had agreed to take over the chairmanship of the QCWA Scholarship Fund, which his father previously chaired.  He urged members to seek out local students who hold amateur licenses who could qualify to get one of these scholarships.

Contributions to the Fund can be accepted from individual members.  If these contributions are sent as a check to the Chapter Treasurer, the check should be specifically noted thereon that money is for the QCWA Scholarship Fund.  It was noted that the Chapter has made donations to the Fund as a memorial to Old Dominion Chapter members who have passed away.
